about

I Want What You Want - This can mean something good between brothers/sisters, ie, I want you to have what you want.

Or it can mean something fractious and painful - We both want the same thing, but only one of us can have it. Competitive, dog-eat-dog.

Not all that clear, is it? You have to guess at what I want, and then guess at why I want it.

When this album started, it was the first one. I want you to have what you want to have. That’s a message we need to put out there when our motives are not obvious, and so it’s the title of this album.

But as time went by, I saw the shape of the second definition in the title - I want what someone else has. And sometimes that means I want to be the sole owner. The only one who has it, exclusive access. This means I TAKE exclusive access. I win it. Or I steal it. This is not so nice, and a world built on this objective is not a world that can be sustained.

But this is our world, the one we’ve made. This is who we are.

I Want What You Want. This is my highest hope. This is my confession.
